The shops and establishment Act, 1948 is regulated by the department of labour and regulates premises where in any trade, business or profession is carried out.
The premises governed by the Act are shops, commercial establishment, residential hotels, clubs, restaurants, theaters, and other public amusement.

Applicability
The provisions of Shop and Establishments Act are applicable to those Shops and Establishments employing 10 or more employees.
The shops and establishment having 10 or more employees shall make an application for registration within a period of 60 days from the date of commencement of the business.
